Press Quenching

The demand for weight reduction in order to achieve U.S. government CAFE requirements, and to achieve higher safety standards such as the IIHS Small Overlap crash test has led to increased applications for Press Quenched parts (a.k.a. Hot Stamping and Press Hardening).

Process
  • Produce blank and heat to 900C in furnace
  • Cool blank inside die (Press Quenching)
  • Increased strength from 590MPa to 1500 MPa
Properties
  • Superior formability
  • Superior shape retention
  • Weight reduction
